Two Jacob Petit Paris Porcelain Bulb Pots

second quarter 19th century, French, on identical blanks, with shell-molded bulb holders and anthemion-molded and pierced rims, the paw feet with lion's-head masques and delicate pierced skirts, one with a portrait of Madame de Sevigne on the obverse and troubadours on the reverse, and the other with botanical and ornithological decoration, each signed on the bottom "J.P." in underglaze blue.
h. 9-1/2", w. 6", d. 6"

Provenance: The Estate of Frank Fasullo, New Orleans, Louisiana.

  • Condition: **On the portrait example, the pierced gallery top has a hair crack to one corner, and the other corner has a notable repair to three sections. On the floral example, two feet and three aprons on the base have been repaired with visible over-glazing and gilding. The inside of the pot has over-glazing to the two corners that correspond with the repaired feet. The cover on the same pot has been visibly repaired in several places with remnants of adhesive and over-glaze filler. Both examples have losses and rubbing to gilding throughout, scattered wear to feet and a few innate firing fissures to insides and undersides of aprons.
