Two Newcomb College Art Pottery Matte-Glazed Vases

the first with cylindrical body and crimped neck carved in low relief with Cherokee roses, 1923, decorated by Sadie Irvine in blue, pink and green underglaze, h. 5-1/2", w. 2-3/4"; the second with globular body and rim band carved in low relief with narcissuses, 1921, decorated by Anna Frances Simpson in yellow, blue and green underglaze, h. 2-3/4", w. 4-3/4".

Each marked with Newcomb cipher, decorator's mark and Joseph Meyer's potter mark; the first with reg. no. "NC19" and shape no. "4", the second with reg. no. "LU5" and shape no. "90".


  • Condition: **Both vases are in overall very good condition with no visible losses, cracks or repairs. The globular-form vase has a minor innate firing anomaly (glaze pop) to its body. The other vase has light surface soiling to its interior, which can be removed with cleaning.
