Two Pairs of Paris Porcelain Urns

second quarter 19th century, the larger pair decorated on the obverse with polychrome scenes of Zeus and Hera on one urn and Cupid and Psyche on the other, and on the reverse with depictions of classical ruins, h. 16", w. 8-1/4", the smaller pair with caryatid-form handles and decorated on the obverse with hand-painted polychrome figures in Renaissance costume, and on the reverse with "Italian" landscapes, h. 10-3/4", w. 4-1/4", d. 3-1/4".


  • Condition: **LARGER PAIR: Both with a restored and painted band (approx. 1/4" wide) where the lower portion of the body meets the upper portion of the body, with one example having a substantial repaired break with adjacent losses. One example with a restored handle and a repaired handle. The base of one is a bit yellowed on the INTERIOR and is a bit different here as well. Scattered minor rubbing to gilt on foot of both.
    SMALLER PAIR: Rubbing to gilt primarily at the edges. One example with a 2" hairline down from the rim and only visible on the interior. One figural handle missing a portion on the "platform". Bolts replaced.
