Two Parian Dog Figures, including "Imposing on Good Nature", after Daniel Chester (American, 1850-1931), depicting a small dog playing with a large dog, with a brass patent tag for Clark, Plympton & Co., a Boston retailer, dated 1871 and inscribed "DC French" on the side, together with an elegant whippet on a plinth, marked "Copeland", English, post-1847, h. 7", w. 11".

  • Condition: On "Imposing on Good Nature", the smaller dog's tail is lacking, and there are a couple of innate firing cracks that have opened up on the back of the smaller dog's heel, on the larger dog, and on the base--the last of which has been professionally filled. On the figure of the whippet, there are losses to the edge of its proper left ear, and four small chips to the edges of the base. Condition is as to be expected with age and use.
