Two Tiffany & Co. Sterling Silver Presentation Cigar/Tobacco Canisters

1970s, both lined in Spanish cedar, including:
a cubic example from Tiffany, Portugal, with flat-domed lid with ring handle, with presentation inscription to John E. Swearingen, Jr., from the Board of Directors of Standard Oil Company Indiana on his twenty-fifth anniversary of his directorship (1952-1977), h. 6-1/2", w. 5", d. 5"; and
a cylindrical example from Tiffany, New York, with domed lid and large button handle, monogramed "JBS" for John and Bonnie Swearingen opposing the engraved inscription "With Best Wishes to John and Bonnie, Ardeshir Zahedi", h. 7-3/4", dia. 6".

  • Provenance: The Estate of Bonnie Bolding Swearingen, Birmingham, Alabama.
  • Notes: Ardeshir Zahedi served as Iranian Ambassador to the United States 1960-1962 and again 1973-1979, during which he became known for his extravagance and relationship with Elizabeth Taylor. He never returned to Iran after the revolution and is currently retired in Switzerland.
