Unusual English Regency Japanned Shelf Clock, first quarter 19th century, the case decorated in the chinoiserie fashion with trees and houses, the steel dial signed "Baker Appleby", probably for Henry Baker I (1761-1826), one of the succession of five clockmakers from the Baker family of Appleby, Magna, England, h. 15-1/2", w. 10", d. 5-1/4". Provenance: Merryl Israel Aron, New Orleans, Louisiana.


  • Condition: In fine original "as found" condition. The painted and decorated surface is very well preserved and intact. No evidence of inpaint or touch-up. The silvered dial with some tarnish and wear from age. Pendulum and winding key present. We are uncertain of its running condition.
