Unusual Louis-Philippe Giltwood Mirror

mid-19th century, the pierced crest decorated with tropical leaves and fruit, the surround molded with cross-hatching and like decor, the antique mirror plate lined with beading.
h. 59", w. 39"

  • Condition: **In "as found" condition, with scattered losses to gilt revealing the underlying gesso, scattered small losses, rubbing, wear and significant overpainting.

There are a number of losses to carved elements, most notably on the left end of the crest, losses to a branch and leaf tip and one larger leaf is loose. On the lower right corner, there is the loss of a cluster of hanging pods, and a loss of a couple on the left side of the frame, about 2/3 the way down from the top.

The mirror plate appears to be old/antique. It is generally crisp and clear with scattered small spots of imperfections in the silvering.
