Unusual Pair of Chinese Export "Clobbered" Porcelain Vases and Covers

probably mid-19th century, each of four-sided pear-shaped form, on a raised, tapering foot, and having applied dragon-form handles and conforming cover with foo-dog-form finials, decorated to the exterior with opposing panels in blue and white depicting temples and houses by a riverside, all within dense floral and geometric scroll pattern borders, later overpainted in greens, pinks, yellows and copper red with a cracked ice design and other floral embellishments.
h. 18-1/4", w. 10"

  • Condition: **In overall very good condition with no visible repairs or significant losses. There is a surface chip to the glaze on one vase neck. On the the other vase, there is a "fleabite" chip to the corner edge of one foot rim. The rim on the inside of one lid has three innate firing fissures that are spherical in shape (fissures do not extend through rim). There is a glaze skip, not chip, to the edge of one foo-dog foot. Both vases exhibit some minor wear/rubbing to the gilding on the rims and handles.
