Victorian Cased Twenty-Four-Piece Sterling Silver Fruit Service

hallmarked Sheffield, 1881-1885, by Harrison Brothers and Howson, in the traditional "Pistol Handle" shape with acanthus crest, including twelve forks, each with three tines, l. 7-1/4", and twelve knives with blunt scimitar-shaped sterling blades, l. 8-1/2", the handles pitch-filled and monogrammed "MRB", presented in the original cadet blue satin- and velvet-lined fitted oak case with lift-out tray, 2-1/2" x 15-1/4" x 10-1/8", the interior lid with gilt retailer's stamp of the Goldsmith's and Silversmith's Co. Ltd.

  • Condition: **A used set in overall good condition. Scattered bumps and nicks, but no significant condition issues. All blades/tines are well-seated and secure. Each piece fully hallmarked on the handle and blade/tine. The case is in reasonably good shape, with no stains or tears, though some of the retaining partitions are detached with a few losses. There is a narrow width-wise shrinkage crack on the lid, and a larger depth-wise crack on the underside, but the case is sound. An attractive set.
