Victorian Ebonized and Mother-of-Pearl-Inlaid Papier-Mache Armchair

third quarter 19th century, of barrel-back form, with a central floral spray on the back, the slip seat in needlepoint and raised on cabriole legs with scrolled toes.
h. 37", w. 28", d. 21"

  • Condition: **In overall very good condition, exhibiting normal rubbing and wear to the surfaces, some scattered minor restoration to the inlay, minor mars to perimeter edges and scattered spots of inpainting. The legs appear to have been repainted. The gilt and decorated surfaces are in an unusually good state of preservation.

Tight and very sturdy. The legs do not exhibit any movement or play. There is an irregularity (small raised spot) in the surface above one front leg suggesting a possible past repair now obscured by paint.

    No notable chips or losses.
