Victorian Ebonized and Thuya Parlor Cabinet, third quarter 19th century, the stepped center section banded and with a three-quarter pierced brass gallery, above a frieze with inset Jasperware plaques above an arch paneled cupboard door centered by a like larger oval plaque, flanked to either side by rounded cupboards inset with glazed panels, raised on toupie feet, the whole accented with ormolu millwork, h. 46", w. 58", d. 17-1/2".

  • Condition: Overall in complete good shape. All of the applied metal decoration present; one small "Beaded Twisted Rope" trim piece on right curved apron in need of re-tacking. There are four shrinkage cracks, 2" to 3" long, at top of the central door arch that have been filled and colored but are still slightly visible. Some minor flaking and raising to burl veneer to topmost plateau of piece. One "dime size" loss to ebony finish on the top right projected block, now colored in. The overall finish shows evenly with some lighter rub marks throughout. Evidence of light moisture spotting, dappling to top of piece in finish. Minor small dings and nicks throughout, all consistent with age and use. Original period wavy glass on side cabinets. Possible later whitewashing to interior surface of cabinets.
