Victorian Silverplate Cruet Frame

third quarter 19th century, by James Dixon & Sons, Sheffield, of oval form with waisted and reticulated sides and floral-decorated rim, the central baluster standard with acanthus scroll ring and fitted with a partitioner, fitted with seven panel-cut-glass condiment bottles, all raised on four openwork rococo scroll feet.
h. 12-1/2", l. 8-1/4", w. 6-5/8"

  • Provenance: The Estate of Stella R. Sharp, Natchez, Mississippi.
  • Condition: **Extensive wear to the yellowish nickel silver base on the partitioner, and some bleeding to the copper core of the feet on the highest points of relief. Otherwise, the frame is in good shape, with light bumps and scuffs consistent with age, but no breaks, repairs or significant dents. No cracks noted on any of the glass. Both of the smallered stoppered bottles have some chips around the upper rim; likewise, both capped casters on the lower rim. All the stoppers are likely replacements, clear but with bubbles, strings and other minor construction flaws. The silverplate caster caps are mis-matched. The mustard pot has a sterling cap hallmarked Birmingham, 1847-48, by James Dixon.
