Victorian Sterling Silver Tea Caddy

  • Condition: Overall Condition: Good. Scattered scuffs and pinpoint dents consistent with age. Two small, shallow dents on one narrow end: one about 1/8" diameter, just above the banding at the bottom, and a larger, fingernail-sized dent hidden in the swag decoration. Lid does not sit perfectly flush, gaping about 1/8" at the front. One nut which holds the lock in place on the inside is lacking, as is the key. Hinge good and tight. No monograms or evidence of their removal. Hallmarked (on the underside) with 1) the sterling lion passant; 2) the London leopard's head; 3) the date letter "e" for 1860-1861; 4) the Victoria's bust duty mark; and 5) the "WS" in conjoined circles maker's mark of William Stocker. The lock mechanism and lid both part-marked. The underside additionally stamped with retailer's mark: "Lambert & Rawlings / Coventry St. / London".
