William IV Giltwood Pier Mirror

second quarter 19th century, the ogee-molded surround decorated with applied scrollwork and pierced acanthus leaves, a narrow band of "sanded" decoration defining the mirror opening, set with two plates of antique glass, likely original.
h. 78", w. 48-1/4"

  • Condition: **In good "as found" condition.

The gilt surface exhibits scattered rubbing and wear. In a few places, loss to gilt reveals the underlying white plaster/gesso.

The mirror plate is crisp and clean. It is in two parts, one about 1/4 of the height of the mirror and the other about 3/4.

There is a loss to the carving at one corner (visible in the catalogue photo). There is a loss to molding on a side, near the wall, about 3/8" wide and 2" long.
