William IV Old Sheffield Plate Epergne

  • Condition: Overall Condition: Good. One of the outer receptacles is loose (but secure) in its socket and about 10 degrees out of horizontal (visible in the illustration at left front). Some spots of bleeding to the copper core at the highest relief, most notably on the base around the bottom of the standard and the crest and "knuckles" of the feet, but also at the outer edges of the supports and other narrow edges. The iron underplate is rusted, and the corrosion has carried over to a 1-1/2" spot along one basal edge. Marked (on the standard, under the detachable finial) "W.H". All the glass bowls have chips and frits along the shaped edges, and one of the small bowls has severe damage: it has been broken completely in half and epoxied back together, with a 1-3/4" vertical crack beside this, one "frond" completely missing with two 3/4" long chips flanking.
