William IV Old Sheffield Plate Fruit Stand, second quarter 19th century, with four laurel-crested, lion's paw-footed flat column legs joined to a stretcher and receptacle, fitted with a later frosted and fan-cut glass fruit bowl, h. 9-3/4", dia. 9". Provenance: Estate of Alice Evans Pratt, Houston, Texas.

  • Condition: There are repairs to breaks on all four of the legs where they meet the stretcher, and to one leg where it meets the upper ring. Holes for epergne branches (now lacking) have been filled in with solder on the stretcher, and the whole piece electroplated to cover the extensive repairs. Slight bleeding to the copper at the upper edges of the legs, with some minor peeling to the later electroplating. Wear to the relief, somewhat masked by the re-plating. No manufacturer's/maker's marks. Glass in good used condition, with scattered small chips to the edge.
