William IV Tortoiseshell Tea Caddy

second quarter 19th century, with a slightly bowed facade and cut corners, the cove-molded cover opening to reveal a two-compartment interior with matching covers, on brass ball feet.
h. 6", w. 7-3/4", d. 4-1/2"

  • Condition: **Structurally sound and in overall good condition. There is a repair to the right rear near hinge and a 1-1/2" loss to tortoiseshell veneer. There is a 1" loss to the veneer on the base edge on the lower right. Caddy case exhibits some minor age and shrinkage cracks, and small losses and nicks to tortoiseshell edges - all of which are to be expected with age and use. The knop on one lid has been repaired (reglued), and the compartments are lacking most of their paktong lining. Paper lining on the bottom of the caddy is also partly lacking.
