American Classical Stenciled Mahogany Pier Table
ca. 1825, New York, the white marble top over a frieze with stenciled fruit and foliage, the ends with stenciled urns, raised on marble columns with gilt foliate-carved capitals, the back with like pilasters, joined to a concave low shelf with similar stenciling, raised on leaf-carved paw feet, the back fitted with a looking glass, the frieze with a later drawer.

Condition: **In overall very good condition, with evidence of normal rubbing, mars and wear, with typical past minor restorations and repairs.
Tight and solid.
The antique marble top exhibits typical small nicks and flakes to its perimeter edges.
The drawer was cut into the frieze at some point after the table was made. The work is of professional cabinetmaker quality and appears to have been done in the 19th century.
There is a missing piece of gilded wood, about 1" deep, to the top back edge of the flat board atop a rear pilaster capital. The loss is not visible from the front.
Retouching and over-painting to gilding. Some scattered inpainting to stenciling, most notably to the shelf behind one column.
The lower shelf exhibits some fairly tight shrinkage tears in the veneer.
There is a veneer loss to the vertical edge of the bottom shelf, just behind a foot, of approximately 2-1/4" by 3".
