Pair of Giltwood Convex Mirrors

mid-19th century, American or English, crowned with displayed eagles, flanking pierced scrollwork trimmed with gadrooning, the cove-molded surround set with spherules, the base with lower crests in the form of a reeded fan over a rocaille-molded fan.
h. 37", dia. 24"

Provenance: Didier Antiques, New Orleans, Louisiana. This pair of looking glasses formerly hung in the Governor's Mansion, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

  • Condition: **Both are in fine condition. Minor flaking to the gilding, primarily to the applied balls. It appears that the gilding and black-painted inner liners have been professionally restored at one time. No sign of any broken or missing elements.
