American Rococo Revival Laminated Rosewood Seven-Piece Parlor Suite in the "Rosalie" Pattern, mid-19th century, attributed to John Henry Belter, New York, composed of a settee, a pair of armchairs and four sidechairs, each chair with a thinly laminated concave back centered by a fruit-, floral- and grape-carved crest, serpentine apron and cabriole legs, armchair, h. 42-1/2" and 43", sidechair, h. 37", 37", 37-1/4" and 37-1/2", the settee with a serpentine triple-crest back, open arms, serpentine seat and cabriole legs, now upholstered in green brocade, h. 42", w. 67", d. 31".


  • Condition: The settee frame has a fracture at each end at the point where the cluster of grapes is carved. There is a small loss to the back side of the right crest at this point. Structurally solid. One of the sidechairs has some faint tack holes along the top edge of the back which were filled at one time. Minor chips to the leaf tips along the crest edge. One armchair has some tack marks to the back, approximately 6". The other armchair has had all four legs restored. They have been ended out approximately halfway up. Good, old finish throughout, with great patina. Beautifully upholstered.
