Two Pairs of Paris Porcelain Cornucopia Vases by Jacob Petit, mid-19th century, French, the larger pair with plum-ground bases supporting carefully modeled cornucopias set with shaded green upper portions decorated with hand-painted floral bouquets, h. 11-1/2", w. 6-1/2", d. 8-1/2", and the smaller pair with bleu-royale-ground bases supporting shaded rose upper portions decorated with panels of hand-painted flowers, h. 7-1/4", w. 6-1/2", d. 4-1/2", each signed "J.P." in underglaze blue on the base.


  • Condition: On the smaller pair, one of the scrolls at the foot of the horn has been repaired; the other has a significant repair to the opening of its horn and body with some resultant small losses/chips at the repair seams. On the larger pair, there are four small chips to the rocaille base on one; on the other, there are five "fleabite" chips - four to the rim and one to the rocaille base - and the scrollwork to the rear of the horn has been repaired. There are also two hairline cracks - a vertical one to the inside of the horn, and another to the underside of the rocaille base. Additionally, there are two firing cracks on the base that have opened slightly.
