Cased Assembled Bateman Family Sterling Silver Berry Serving Set

18th/19th century, London, in the traditional "Old English" pattern, including a pair of tablespoons hallmarked 1788-1789 by Hester Bateman, a pair of tablespoons hallmarked 1813-1814, by Peter and William Bateman, and a sugar sifter (converted from a sauce ladle) hallmarked 1819-1820 by William Bateman, all enhanced later with Victorian engraving and repousse fruit, monogrammed "H & MB", presented in a fitted blue satin-lined case as retailed by Noble and Chivers, Bath, 9-1/2" x 10-1/2".

spoons l. 8-3/4", sifter l. 7-1/4"; 10.83 total t. oz.

  • Condition: **In generally very good condition with no problems beyond the expected wear associated with age and use. The case leather has a few scuffs on the exterior and interior, and the satin lining is a little discolored. A sound and attractive set, typical of the Victorian fad for "enhancing" plain Georgian and Regency pieces.
