Chinese Carved Hardwood Cabinet

fourth quarter 20th century, having a rectangular top set within a conforming frame with sectional carved scroll-form ends, over two drawers carved with mirrored depictions of dragons chasing the flaming pearl, the lower section with two cabinet doors, similarly carved with dragons amid a dense scrolling cloud design, having brass mounts and lock, opening to reveal a vacant interior, the whole raised on four block-form feet joined across the front with a densely carved frieze.
h. 32", w. 68-1/2", d. 18-3/4"

  • Condition: **In overall very good condition, exhibiting some shrinkage, moderate rubbing and minor indications of age and use.

The two scroll ends on the top are somewhat loose to play in the tenons.

The doors lack a stop to keep them from closing too far.

The aprons on both sides of the cabinet are off; one is present, the other is not.

There is a crack in the right front end upright on the case. The crack is on the side where an open tenon meets the V-shaped tenon from the lower fore-aft side element. It does not appear to affect the overall structural integrity of the case.
