Collection of Three Wooden Canes

19th century, comprising a rosewood cane with an ebony poodle-head handle with glass eyes and a sterling bezel, l. 35-1/2", a malacca cane with a boxer-head handle, l. 35", and a light wood cane carved with a rosewood dogs-head handle with glass eyes and bone teeth, l. 35-3/4".

  • Condition: **All are tightly joined, with normal wear and rubbing to the finish.

Poodle-head handle: Some small chips and flakes to the poodle's hair. The silver-plated tip at the base may be associated. Most of the finish is rubbed to reveal underlying brass. Somewhat misshapen.

Boxer-head handle: There is a glued-on chip or small replaced piece of carving at one jowl, and a small area that appears to be filler beneath the other jowl. Modern rubber tip over old metal one.

Handle with glass eyes and bone teeth: There is an area of lighter coloration to the nose, possibly a very good patch. Small thumbprint depression to the bezel.
