Early George III Sterling Silver Coffeepot

hallmarked London, 1769-1770, by "EI" (probably Edward Jay), of tapering conical form with conical spout, waisted, domed hinged lid and crested "S"-scroll wooden handle and finial, engraved with the crest of Astley-Corbett et al. (an elephant statant, with trappings, on the back a castle triple-towered).
h. 6-1/2", l. 6-3/4", dia. 3-1/2"; 13.90 t. oz. (including wooden fittings)

  • Condition: **In quite good condition, with no issues noted beyond the expected surface wear consistent with age. Handsome crest. Hallmarked (on the body, near the rim) with: 1) the sterling lion passant; 2) the London crowned leopard's head; 3) the date letter "O" for 1769-1770; and 4) the maker's mark "EI" (probably Edward Jay). The underside of the lid part-marked with all but the city mark. Marks on the body rubbed but legible; those on the lid excellent.
