Set of Four William IV Paul Storr (1771-1844) Sterling Silver Covered Entree Dishes, hallmarked London, 1834-1835, each of lobed octagonal form, with robust rocaille rim extending to form shell handles, the fitted lid en suite, the shell handles of which ingeniously fit into the rim of the base, with large addorsed acanthus ring handles and applied crest of Clifton et al., h. 5-1/4", l. 12-1/4", w. 10-3/4", 209.43 total t. oz.

  • Condition: Overall Condition: Good. Moderate wear to the details of the lids and bodies, particularly the armorial and rocaille handles leading to a loss of detail. Much less wear on the detachable handles. The lid of dish #1 is slightly warped and does not sit quite as firmly as the others. Otherwise no dents, breaks or repairs noted other than scattered pinpoint dings and scuffs consistent with age. Lids and bases hallmarked (on the edge) with: 1) the London leopard's head; 2) the sterling lion passant; 3) the William IV bust duty mark; 4) the date letter "t" for 1834-1835; and 5) the "PS" maker's mark of Paul Storr. All the hallmarks are well-worn, with some illegible. The detachable handles are part-marked and very clear.
