George II Northumbrian Sterling Silver Coffeepot

hallmarked Newcastle, 1743-1744, by William Partis, the pear-shaped body with scroll-divided "gooseneck" spout, hinged, domed lid with toupie finial and molded circular foot-ring, with crested "S"-scroll wooden handle, engraved with the crest of Royall above "R" and opposing "William Royall".

  • Condition: **In overall good condition, with scattered nicks and bumps, particularly around the broadest part of the body. The handle possibly a later (but not recent) replacement. Hallmarked (on the underside) with: 1) the sterling lion passant; 2) the Newcastle "three towers" city mark; 3) the date letter "D" for 1743-1744; 4) the crowned leopard's head; and 5) the "WP" maker's mark of William Partis. The city and maker's mark both double struck, the former rubbed.
