George II Sterling Silver Sauceboat, hallmarked London, 1751-1752, by John Pollock (free 1739; d. 1755), of serpentine-lobed batteau form, with crested C-scroll handle and raised on three shell-crested pad feet, engraved with a rococo cartouche centering the monogram "W/J+M", h. 5-1/8", l. 7-1/4", w. 3-5/8", 9.98 t. oz.


  • Condition: The handle has been broken off and repaired, with rough and slightly discolored silver solder visible around the area, inside and out. Otherwise in good condition, with some surface wear but no splits or dents. The monogram and engraved cartouche are lightly rubbed. Hallmarked (on the underside) with: 1) the sterling lion passant; 2) the London crowned leopard's head; 3) the "q" date letter for 1751-1752; and 4) the "JP" maker's mark of John Pollock. Marks somewhat rubbed - particularly the leopard's head - but legible.
