George III Irish Sterling Silver Gilt Salver

  • Condition: Overall Condition: Good. No dents or breaks noted. The center area is thinned, with a very slight 1/8" crack on the underside, suggesting that an earlier armorial has been removed and replaced; the gilding is thus also later addition or refreshment. The gilding is generally good, but worn on all the high spots of the rim. Excellent chasing and engraving. Hallmarked (on the underside) with 1) the Dublin "harp" standard mark, 2) the seated Hibernia duty mark, 3) the date letter "E" for 1777, and 4) a maker's mark "JL", script, in a serrated oval.
