George III Mahogany Linen Press, fourth quarter 18th century, the broken swan's-neck pediment centered by an ormolu classical bust above a dentillated cornice, the case fitted with two doors, each inset with an oval banded panel centered by a patera, the lower section fitted with two short drawers over three graduated long drawers, all with corner patera accents, raised on shaped bracket feet, one drawer stamped "Edwards & Roberts", h. 98", w. 50", d. 22". Provenance: The Estate of James C. Westerfield, Jackson, Mississippi.


  • Condition: The extensive inlaid crossbanding, paterae and quarter fans have some buckling and shrinkage commensurate with age. Structurally sound. Good finish with minor losses, rubbing and surface scratches. The upper section has been modified to hold a television set, with an opening in the back. The pulls and feet are replacements. The second drawer from the bottom with a 4" crossbanding and beading repair. A 1" x 2" loss to the veneer on the top left side of the lower section.
