hallmarked London, 1786-1787, probably John Harris III, of "turtleback" form, with beaded edging and raised on four triangular feet, fitted with two pen trays flanking three reticulated receptacles for silver-capped diamond-molded glass wells (ink, water and pounce), the caps of later date, hallmarked London, 1806-1807, by John Emes.
h. 3-1/4", l. 8-1/2", w. 5-1/4"; 11.34 total t. oz.

  • Condition: **The central receptacle has two 1/4" sections of damage to the reticulation, one with losses, and some of the surrounding area shows some irregularities suggesting a repair. Otherwise in good shape, with no issues other than the expected patina of age. The glass wells are in good shape, one with a 3/8" shallow chip on the underside, and all with some scattered tiny nicks and flea bites. The stand fully hallmarked on the underside "IH" with very clean and crisp marks; the receptacles part-marked by the same maker. The well caps part-marked by J. Emes.
