George III Sterling Silver Two-Handled Covered Cup hallmarked London, 1799-1800, by William Fearn (1748-1829; free 1770), of ovoid form, with acanthus calyx and scrolling foliate band, with goat's masque-mounted, acanthus-crested and beaded "S"-scroll handles, the waisted lid en suite with figural crest finial of a demi-eagle displayed, raised on a waisted stem and domed foot decorated en suite, engraved on the body with the crest of Lowle impaling Huckel, h. 18-1/4", dia. 7", w. 12-1/2", 103.37 t. oz.


  • Condition: Overall Condition: Good. One small fingerprint-sized dent to the lower left of one armorial, and some shallow rippling at the waisted part of the foot where a compression dent has been hammered out. Otherwise in very good condition with excellent engraving and chasing. Hallmarked (on the basal edge and the lid sleeve with: 1) the sterling lion passant; 2) the London crowned leopard's head (lacking on the sleeve); 3) the date letter "D" for 1799-1800); 4) the George III bust duty mark; and 5) the "WF" maker's mark of William Fearn. Marks very good. Additionally marked on the rim and lid sleeve with the French "ant" import mark. A handsome piece.
