Good Pair of Christofle Silverplate Wine Coolers

ca. 1871, Paris, each of ovoid form and decorated with floral mantled oval cartouches, one with putti of Triton, the other with putti of Dionysus, decorated with foliate scroll band with classical masques and applied laurel-mantled arched handles, fitted with a detachable waisted collar with grape cluster rim, the whole raised on a gadrooned foot with laurel-and-ribbon band.

  • Condition: **In generally good condition, with some signs of age: scattered nicks and dings, but no major dents. Moderate bleeding to the base metal at the highest relief throughout (cast bronze or brass collars and feet; electrotype copper bodies). Liners lacking. Evidence of a dent on one foot having been professionally hammered out, but no evidence of re-plating. Marked on the basal edges with the Christofle trademark in use 1862-1930, "Christofle" and silver content mark "64". The underside of the foot rim with consecutive serial numbers 497924 and 497925. A very attractive pair.
