Gorham Sterling Silver-Mounted Cut Glass Claret Jug
1894, Providence, Rhode Island, the cylindrical glass body cut with feathers in arched and miter-cut panels, clad in a shaped silver collar decorated with embossed flowers, rococo scrolls and beaded band, with acanthus-crested handle, domed lid with figural demi-eagle finial and laurel-banded base.

Condition: **In overall good condition. The silver elements retain traces of gilding, which is now almost totally worn away (though still present on the lid and collar interior). Very nice detail on the silver elements, with wear to the relief and the expected scattered surface nicks and scuffs. Glass very good, with one tiny 3/8" scratch at the top of one arched panel, but otherwise no chips, frits, cracks or fogging noted. Marked (on the underside) with the Gorham "lion-anchor-G" trademark, "Sterling", the Gorham date mark for 1894 (Mars) and the model number "S1561".
