Handsome Inlaid Mahogany Tall Case Clock

ca. 1800, probably New Jersey, on ogee bracket feet, the base inlaid with a compass star framed with round stringing, the waist door inlaid with an oval and contrasting mahogany veneer, both quarter columns and the hood colonettes with inlaid "fluting", the hood with a swan's-neck pediment, with an inlaid bracket supporting the central finial, the painted sheet iron dial with floral spandrels and a rocking ship movement with a second hand.

  • Condition: **In "as found" condition. There is an old glued repair to the right swan's-neck arch at the top. Scattered shrinkage cracks with some areas of filler added. Minor separation to some of the mitered corners. Small chips and veneer losses. Shrinkage and ripples to the lower front panel. Chipping and paint loss to the lower area of the face. The movement appears to be original to the case. Weights, winding key, door key, and pendulum are present. The suspension spring on the pendulum lacking.
