Late George III Sterling Silver Tankard, hallmarked London, 1807-1808, by William Burwash and Richard Sibley (fl. 1805-1812), of traditional slightly tapering cylindrical form with reeded bands, slightly domed hinged lid, openwork billet and squared cavetto-crested handle, the underside with a later presentation inscription dated 1964, h. 7-3/4", l. 7-1/8", dia. 5", 35.29 t. oz.


  • Condition: Overall Condition: Good. Slight dent on the tip of the lid, and some scattered light dings on the edge of the lid and the top of the handle. Otherwise no condition issues noted beyond the expected surface wear consistent with age. Later inscription on the underside "William Russell Grace Byers, Jr. / With all love / Daddy / November 6, 1964". Hallmarked (on the body near the rim and on the underside edge of the lid) with: 1) the sterling lion passant; 2) the London crowned leopard's head; 3) the date letter "M" for 1807-1808; 4) the "WB/RS" maker's mark of Burwash and Sibley; and 5) the George III bust duty mark (the city and duty marks lacking on the lid). Marks rubbed but legible; the letters on left half of both maker's marks (W/R) are obscured.
