Late Georgian Irish Sterling Silver Sugar Basket

hallmarked 1805, Dublin, by Joseph Jackson, of navette form, with fluted panels and swing handle, decorated with bright-cut and pricked decoration, engraved with the crest of Cassidy, Fitz-Allen, etc.
h. 4-5/8" (7-1/2" with handle), l. 7-1/2", w. 4-5/8"; 8.77 t. oz.


  • Condition: **Light surface wear, bumps and dings commensurate with age and use, but in generally very good condition with no breaks or repairs noted. One side appears to have had a crest or initials buffed out, but with no appreciable thinning of the silver. Hallmarked (on the underside) with the sterling harp, the Dublin Hibernia, the date letter "I" for 1805, and the "II" maker's mark of Joseph Jackson; the handle part-marked. Marks very good - clear and crisp.
