Late Georgian Sterling Silver Cake Basket, hallmarked London, 1809-1810, by Joseph William Story and William Elliott, of rounded rectangular form with upswept ends, with gadrooned banding and gadroon, shell and scroll rim, with swing handle and conforming foot en suite, l. 13-3/4", w. 10-3/4", h. 4-3/4" (10" with handle), 40.46 t. oz.


  • Condition: Overall Condition: Good. Small area of dark spotting, in all about 1" in diameter, on the broad gadrooning of the bowl. Light surface wear, but no dents, breaks or repairs. Some loss of detail to the highest relief of the rim. Hallmarked (on the under edge) with: 1) the sterling lion passant; 2) the London crowned leopard's head; 3) the date letter "O" for 1809-1810; 4) the George III bust duty mark; and 5) the "IWS / WE" maker's mark of Story and Elliott. Marks lightly worn but legible but for the final letter of the maker's mark. The handle part-marked.
