Napoleon III Cased French Provincial Fiddle Thread Silver Flatware Set

third quarter 19th century, Bordeaux, by E. Maitreau and Ducot Jeune, first standard (.950) silver, comprising a dozen each table forks, l. 8-1/4", tablespoons, l. 8-1/2", and teaspoons, l. 5-1/2" (one of the latter lacking and replaced with a Christofle silverplate example), and a ladle, l. 13-1/2", each monogrammed "TL" and presented in a fitted, red baize-lined black leather case with brass handle, 3-1/4" x 15-3/4" x 12".
79.25 total t. oz.

  • Condition: A used set with signs of age and use: some dents on the bowls of the ladle and spoons, some rounding and dents to the tines of the forks. One teaspoon is a later silverplate replacement as noted. Each piece (but for the replacement) marked with the French first standard "Minerva" head and maker's mark. The case is evidently not original, as the ladle slot is about 3/4" too short, but it is a very well-fitting replacemetn with some minor wear, scuffs and discoloration from age, but still quite attractive and serviceable.
