Northern Italian Mahogany and Mixed Woods Center Table

late 18th century, the circular top banded and with an elaborately inlaid scene of a figural pastoral village, removing and reversing to a banded wooden surface, above a conforming frieze fitted with two small drawers and with parquetry-veneered panels, raised on tapering square legs ending in brass caps.
h. 30-1/2", dia. 23-1/2"

  • Condition: **Exhibits shrinkage, some small past veneer repairs, scattered tiny veneer flakes and scattered areas of raised or lifted veneer throughout.

The legs are tightly affixed to the apron.

The inlaid top has shrinkage-induced straight line veneer tears over a seam in the underlying wood. The most notable one includes a small gap and some lifted veneer. It is not in the heavily inlaid section of the top, but does extend through the base of a tree. There is an inlaid splice to mend a portion of this tear.

The underside of the inlaid top exhibits veneer tears, some small losses and repairs to the figured central panel.

The checkerboard-inlaid, non-removable top has a light-colored stain that appears possible to be mostly, or fully cleaned off.

There is a sliver veneer loss to the corner of one drawer, approx. 1/8" by 1/2".
