Northumbrian Regency Sterling Silver Salver

hallmarked Newcastle, 1811-1812, by John Robertson II & John Walton, of rounded rectangular form, with gadrooned rim decorated with shell-and-scroll motifs on the corners and sides, raised on four fluted triangular feet, the plateau with a pricked "vintage" scroll band and engraved with an armorial.

  • Condition: **Surface scuffs on the plateau, but none deep, and a faint, shallow dimple, about 7 x 11 mm to the left of the armorial. Wear to the detail of the leafy mantling of the motifs on the rim. One foot about 1.2 mm out of alignment, but sits generally flat and level. Some annealing scaling and hammer marks on the underside. Hallmarked (on the underside) with: 1) the sterling lion passant; 2) the Newcastle "three towers"; 3) the crowned leopard's head; 4) the date letter "W" for 1811-1812; 5) the cusped George III bust duty mark; and 6) the "IR/IW" maker's mark of Robertson & Walton. Marks lightly worn but fully legible.
