Pair of American Coin Silver Goblets

1850-1852, by Gorham & Thurber, Providence, Rhode Island, each with an octagonally paneled body above a waisted stem and domed foot en suite, engraved, on the body, "Dexter".
h. 5-1/4", dia. 3-1/4", 12.47 total t. oz.

Notes: This handsome pair of goblets was mae the immediate predecessor to the famous Gorham Corporation operated by first cousins John Gorham (1820-1898) and Gorham Thurber (1825-1888). It is to be noted in regards to the inscription on these goblets that Thurber's father was Dexter Thurber and his grandmother the former Miss Mehitable Dexter, which suggests the possibly that these goblets may have a close association with the Thurber/Gorham family.

  • Condition: In generally quite good condition, with no issues noted beyond the expected minor scuffs, scrapes and dings commensurate with age. Each marked (on the underside on the bowl inside the stem) "Gorham & Thurber / Pure Coin / Providence".
