Pair of American Victorian Cast Iron Garden Urns

fourth quarter 19th century, the bowls mounted with scroll-molded handles and supported on leaf-molded baluster-form bases decorated with swans, above scrolled bases.
h. 42-1/2", w. 26", d. 20-3/4"

Provenance: The Estate of Donald J. Hurst, Waterloo, Iowa.

  • Condition: **In good "as found" condition, exhibiting normal oxidation and paint losses.

Both urns are sturdy and solid. They are not affixed to the bases but appear suitably heavy to remain put.

The handles are tightly affixed with old, but presumably replaced, oxidized nuts and bolts.

No welds or evidence of later repairs observed. Note that the paint is multiple layers and heavy.

These have the hole on the sides of the self-draining variety of urns. As such, they may have once had a false bottom or interior liner.
