Pair of George III Sterling Silver Candlesticks

hallmarked London, 1762-1763, by "IH" (John Horsley?), each of knopped baluster form of squared section, quartered by scrolling fans and surmounted by a cannon-form nozzle fitted with a conforming detachable bobeche.
h. 10", w. 4-1/4"; 38.92 total t. oz.

  • Condition: **In good condition. Cast construction; no splits, breaks, dents or repairs. Wear to the relief; good patina. The concealed lower edge of the bobeche sleeves are turned inward to support the candle and have some tiny splits along the turn. Wax residue in the socket and on the bobeche sleeve. Fully hallmarked (on each side of the underside of the base) with: 1) the sterling lion passant; 2) the London crowned leopard's head; 3) the date letter "G" for 1762-1763; and 4) the unidentified maker's mark "I-star-H". Marks generally very good and crisp. The candlesocket part-marked with the lion passant; the bobeches unmarked.
