Pair of German Sterling Silver "Jousting Knights" Table Garnitures

second half 20th century, probably Hanau, the combatants depicted in full armor with articulated visor, holding a lance and shield, riding an armored horse passant, the peytral and croupiere decorated with hardstone and glass cabochons, all raised on a rectangular base with semicircular projections and decorated fanciful armorials matching the knight's shield, and leaf-and-dart banding.
h. 12", l. 12-1/4", w. 3-1/2"; 124.40 total t. oz.

Provenance: Private collection, Houston, Texas.

  • Condition: **The reins of the horse with "griffin" crest are broken from a 1" segment held in knight's hands and therefore hang loosely from the bit to which they are hinged. The upper half of the other knight's helmet has been reaffixed with epoxy. Otherwise no issues noted on the two figures. No chips or cracks on the cabochons. Note that the lances are detachable and the visors hinged and movable. Each figure marked on the basal edge "Sterling 925 Germany" with a rubbed maker's mark, possibly Neresheimer & Co.
