Pair of Late George III Sterling Silver Gilt Wine Coasters

hallmarked London, 1806-1807, by Thomas Holland II, of squat cylindrical form, with central turned wood base clad in a silver gilt collar embossed in the round with neoclassical figures and flower baskets, with leaf-and-dart rim, the base centering a silver gilt boss engraved with a crest of a demi-phoenix, ducally gorged (Fenwick et al.).

  • Condition: **In overall good condition with scattered minor nicks and bumps. The gilding has worn to the silver on the high relief. One coaster has a 1/4" vertical crack on the lower edge; the wooden base on this coaster has some give but is secure. The other coaster has a visible seam line on the lower edge. Well-engraved crest. Each hallmarked (on the lower edge) with: 1) the sterling lion passant; 2) the London crowned leopard's head; 3) the date letter "L" for 1806-1807; 4) the "TH" maker's mark of Thomas Holland; and 5) the George III bust duty mark. Marks worn but fully legible.
