Pair of Malachite, Bronze and Metal Garniture Vases

first quarter 20th century, French or Russian, the gilt-bronze base mounts decorated with engine turning and molded leaves, the slender necks with bronze mounts between patinated-metal winged caryatids with dolphin tails, smoking pipes.
h. 18-1/2", w. 5-1/4", d. 3-3/4"

  • Condition: **On one vase, there is a 1/4" x 1/2" horizontal loss to the malachite at the self-base where it is mounted with bronze laurel leaves, and there is a scratch (loss of patina) to a small side of one caryatid's hair. On the other vase, there is a chip to the covered malachite rim, and a minute one to the neck above the bronze rim. Vase also exhibits a few pinhead-sized losses from natural veining in the malachite that has opened. Vase necks and tops are slightly loose, as the base screws need to be tightened. In overall very good condition. Losses are minor and not readily visible.
