Pair of Staffordshire Pottery Parrot and Lamb Quill Holders, mid-19th century, English, colorfully decorated with parrots in trees above recumbent lambs, h. 5", w. 3", d. 2-1/2". A nearly identical example is illustrated in Victorian Staffordshire Figures, 1835-1875, Book Two, by A. & N. Harding, p. 235, figure 2854.


  • Condition: There is a small loss to one lamb's ear tip. The same holder also has two small chips to its foot rim. The other holder has a visible firing fissure to the right of the quill aperture, and the parrot is lacking the black pigment spot in its right eye. Some wear to gilded bands on the bases. Crazing to glaze on rockwork bases.
