Suite of Eight Mahogany Dining Chairs, late 19th century, in the Gothic taste, consisting of two armchairs and six sidechairs, each with a shield-form crest flanked to either side by rampant lions, above a quatrefoil-pierced frieze over a slatted back, the padded seat raised on spiral-fluted circular legs, joined by an H-form stretcher and ending in block-and-ball feet, h. 50".
- Condition: In overall good condition, with normal minor mars, wear, shrinkage and indications of age and use. There are some chips and flakes to perimeter edges, most notably several of the lion's ears in the crest carving. One lion's head is missing from a sidechair. One sidechair crest has a "crown" that has been re-glued and slightly misaligned. That same crest exhibits areas of blush/white on the finish. Two chairs are very slightly loose at the juncture of the seat rail and the stiles. One arm is slightly loose. That same arm has a loose block of wood that needs to be reattached; the loose chip is at the joint with the stile.
