Rare Southern Federal Sideboard, ca. 1800, probably Georgia or the Carolinas, composed of birch with a Southern yellow pine secondary the sideboard with a fitted bottle drawer on the right side, with line inlay and "ice cream cone" shaped escutcheons, constructed with tenon-through construction, h. 39", w. 62", d. 23-1/4".

  • Condition: In overall very good condition. Refinished sometime in the past, with some scattered replacements and laying back down of the line stringing. Exhibits normal surface blemishes, mars, abrasions and wear consistent with age and use. Back is original and locks correct. Drawers slide smoothly. The right drawer retains its internal dividers for bottles. Secondary wood on one drawer exhibits evidence of past insect damage, not so significant as to render the drawer in need of repair. All locks present and appear to be correct. The pulls and bails appear to be replacements utilizing the original drillings. The cuffs at the bottom of the legs may have replaced veneer. They are veneered on three sides. The back of the legs exhibit consistent grain and no seams with the rest of the leg, suggesting they have not been ended-out at the cuffs.
